Little Voice

Wow.  I’ve wanted to watch this film for years.  I am very moved.  Her name was Laura.  Her mother called her Little Voice because she was so quiet.  The actors were tremendous-the always great Brenda Blethyn, Michael Caine in a delicious smarmy role, Ewan McGregor and Jane Horrocks, who played Little Voice.  She sang all of her own songs in the film, which is remarkable, since they were impersonations of other singer/actresses.  She was excellent.  Brenda Blethyn was nominated for an Oscar for her role in this film, but Jane Orrocks was equally outstanding.

It was a musical, a comedy and a tragedy all at once.  I will definitely have to let it sink in some more.  I loved it, I know that.  I’m thankful it ended sweetly, because it was a little hard to watch at times.  Orrock’s portrayal of Little Voice’s anguish was very moving.  Maybe more thoughts about it later.
